Timpanogos Cave National Monument
Timpanogos Cave National Monument
Though the hike up the side of this mountain-face can be somewhat daunting, with fairly steep switchbacks criss-crossing upwards, the path is paved and wide, and the destination surely outweighs the journey. Timpanogos cave hides vast, magnificent caverns that display some of the finest examples of dripstones in North America. In addition to the awe-inspiring stalactites and stalagmites, among the most interesting are the helictites, which are like hollowed straws of rock. Tours are run from May - October, when the cave is open. Be sure to dress warmly, as the caverns temperatures remain low, even during the hottest summer months.
